Westport Police Officers Recognized For Saving a Life

WESTPORT (WBSM) — Two Westport police officers have given a Life Saving award from the Westport Police Awards Committee.

Officers Mike Chicca and Jarrod Levesque responded to a family dispute on October 11 at a residence located on Drift Road, when a 56-year-old man suddenly collapsed while talking with the officers outside the residence.

Police said Levesque and Chica immediately recognized the seriousness of the event and provided medical attention to help the man.

Officer Levesque checked for a pulse and completed chest compressions, while Officer Chicca retrieved and used an AED on the man before an ambulance arrived.

Westport police say that with their quick response and proper utilization of the AED and manual CPR processes, they were able to help the man regain consciousness before advanced life support arrived on the scene.

"This was the first time in 29 years I brought a patient to the hospital post cardiac arrest that was sitting up talking to me with no complaints. He is definitely alive and doing well from a quick response from your guys," Westport Paramedic Glenn Nunes said in a statement to the Awards Committee.

"The Awards Committee found that the actions of Chicca and Levesque did rise to the standards of reverence and solemnity when considering recognition in awarding Police Medals," police said.
