Love is a very mysterious and wonderful thing, but can often times be difficult to find.

According to a new study from WalletHub, nearly 46 percent of adults in the U.S. are unmarried, and the search for a soulmate has become a daunting task, especially as dating expenses continue to rise.

This study aimed to ease the dating woes by ranking 182 U.S. cities based on their dating-friendliness across three key dimensions: Economics, Fun & Recreation, and Dating Opportunities.

Unfortunately for singles in Warwick, Rhode Island, the news isn’t exactly great.

Out of the 182 cities analyzed, Warwick ranked a dismal 176th overall, narrowly avoiding the bottom spot it held in previous years. With a total score of 40.70, Warwick is significantly behind the frontrunner, Atlanta, Georgia, which scored 63.81. Here’s how Warwick fared in each category:

Economics Rank: 155
Fun & Recreation Rank: 165
Dating Opportunities Rank: 144

This trifecta of low scores paints a bleak picture for singles hoping to find love in Warwick.

Why Warwick Struggles

Economic Challenges:

Dating in Warwick comes with a hefty price tag. The city ranks poorly in metrics such as the average cost of a two-person meal, cocktail prices, and even basic entertainment like movie tickets.

Additionally, housing affordability and median household income, both crucial factors in dating affordability, drag down the city’s appeal.

Lackluster Entertainment Options:

When it comes to fun and recreation, Warwick leaves much to be desired. The city is short on attractions, nightlife, and social hubs that foster romantic connections. With few parks, coffee shops, and fitness centers per capita, singles are left with limited options for meeting new people or planning exciting dates.

Dating Opportunities Are Scarce:

Warwick’s low ranking in dating opportunities is another blow.

Despite having a fair share of single residents, the city falls short in online and mobile dating opportunities. Additionally, the gender balance and interest in dating apps, measured by Google search traffic for terms like “Tinder,” remain relatively low compared to other cities.

While Warwick may not be the best place for singles seeking love, it highlights a broader trend: the struggle of mid-sized cities to compete with larger metropolitan areas. Cities like Atlanta, New York, and San Francisco offer a vibrant social scene, better economic prospects, and more opportunities for singles to mingle.

Can Warwick Turn It Around?

Although the numbers paint a grim picture, there’s always room for improvement.

Warwick could benefit from initiatives aimed at boosting local entertainment, improving affordability, and increasing community engagement. More festivals, social events, and investment in public spaces could help the city climb the rankings in the coming years.

For now, singles in Warwick may need to look beyond city limits or get creative in their search for love. After all, even in the least likely places, romance can still bloom – if you know where to look.
