WAREHAM (WBSM) — For those who are looking to lose weight but have questions regarding some of the more modern techniques, Southcoast Health is holding a Weight Loss Fair this week.

The event is part of the 20th anniversary of the Southcoast Health Weight Loss Center.

The fair is happening Thursday, May 30, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rosebrook Event Center in Wareham, just a stone’s throw from Southcoast Health’s Rosebrook facility.

According to Southcoast Health, in the 20 years since the Weight Loss Center began, over 12,000 “have changed their lives through weight loss surgery.”

As part of the event, there will be informational sessions on things like bariatric surgery options such as a gastric bypass or a gastric sleeve, as well as actual patients sharing their experiences.

There will also be healthy cooking demonstrations, nutritional assessments, exercise options, and a chance for “before and after” photos.

On a personal note, I began my weight loss journey with the Southcoast Health Weight Loss Center back in July 2023. Tipping the scales at the most I’d ever weighed, and experiencing more and more health problems, I knew it was time to finally do something about it.

Instead of opting for bariatric surgery, I instead chose to go the path of medical weight loss through medication. Now, I’ve lost about 84 pounds on Mounjaro (simliar to Ozempic, and now known in weight loss form as Zepbound) and I’m under 200 pounds for the first time since high school.

Southcoast Health was able to help me make the right lifestyle changes in addition to taking the medication, such as increasing my exercise and going on a low-carb, high-protein diet. People who haven’t seen me since before last summer are amazed at the difference and I feel better than I have since I was a teenager.

While that may not be the right route for you when it comes to weight loss, it will be just one of the options you can learn about at the Weight Loss Fair on Thursday.
