Wareham Plow Driver’s Simple Act Warms Community
After days of back-breaking shoveling and snowbanks that feel more like concrete walls, one Wareham man quietly reminded his neighbors what taking care of one another really looks like.
Wareham resident Kathleen Jaye didn’t know him, but she won’t forget him.
On Tuesday afternoon, Jaye, 57, battling a head cold, exhaustion and that soul-crushing end-of-driveway snow pile, was outside helping shovel neighbors when what she describes as “a call from an angel” came rolling down the street.
A Plow, a Pause, a Small Miracle
At first, the truck drove by. Jaye, who said she waves to everyone, gave him a friendly wave as he passed, and that's when something unexpected happened.
He turned around.
Without a word, the driver lowered his plow and headed straight toward the monstrous, rock-solid ice mountain at the end of the street; you know, the one the town plow leaves behind that feels impossible to move. Jaye and her neighbors quickly got out of the way.
“He pushed that heavy ice boulder out of the way like a freaking boss,” she wrote.
Not once, not twice, but three times. The neighbors were stunned and jumped for joy.

“It Costs Nothing to Be Kind”
Jaye ran over to thank him for his trouble as he drove off, but the story doesn’t end there.
As she mentally prepared herself to tackle another neighbor’s driveway – exhausted, sick and running on fumes – the truck came back.
Again, the plow dropped.

He cleared another stretch, this time taking the top of her neighbor’s driveway before heading off for good.
In a week filled with short tempers, icy roads and pure physical exhaustion, Jaye said this stranger stood out.
“I’ve seen a LOT of impatient and distracted people these past few days, but this guy — he is what is good about humanity," she said.
The Man Behind the Wheel
The truck was marked New England Landscape & Design LLC, out of Wareham. No website. No fanfare. Just a man behind the wheel doing his job – and then going a little further.
Jaye said if anyone knows the driver, she’d love to properly thank him and buy him a drink.
Her message to the community is simple. “We are all running on little to no patience right now. Just be patient and kind. It costs nothing," she said.
