Wareham Dog Graduates From Chemo With Heartwarming Celebration
A Wareham dog is celebrating a huge milestone.
At just 3 years old, Luna the Frenchie was diagnosed with cancer. Five months later, she is officially in remission, and this fighter deserves her flowers.
Luna’s Story
Michaela Phinney of Wareham is a big animal lover. She is the proud owner of four dogs, and one of those is a little firecracker named Luna.
“She is super loving, she loves all people and we just adore her,” said Phinney.
Phinney is a veterinarian technician and loves to treat her pups to a massage each night.
One night, during Luna’s massage, Phinney noticed something.
“I felt her lymph nodes and they felt swollen,” she shared. “I brought her to work the next day, and unfortunately, we found out she had B-cell lymphoma.”
B-cell lymphoma causes B cells to grow out of control, leading to the formation of tumors in the lymph nodes and other parts of the body. Phinney acted quickly and contacted the Veterinary Cancer Specialists of New England.

Luna began her chemotherapy shortly after.
B-cell lymphoma is fatal, but Luna is a fighter, and she recently went into remission after 5 months of chemotherapy.
“We are hoping for a long remission with her,” said Phinney. “We love her so much and want that extra time with her.”
Wareham Flower Shop Adorns Luna in Flowers
Phinney wanted to celebrate Luna’s milestone in a memorable way. She has always respected and admired the Hawaiian culture, and she believed a flower headpiece and lei were the perfect way to celebrate.
“The lifestyle there and the people are just like nowhere I’ve ever been or experienced before,” she said. “It’s a celebration of her life and I thought this was the perfect way to celebrate.”
Tanya Pires of Wild Flower Floral Design went above and beyond for Luna’s big graduation.
“Tanya was absolutely amazing,” said Phinney. “She was the nicest, sweetest woman and she really made it special for Luna.”
Luna's determination is inspirational and we are thrilled to see her thriving.
Congratulations, Luna! You deserve all the love in the world.
