According to a recent press release, United Way of Greater New Bedford is hosting a kick-off campaign to launch the beginning of the annual fundraising campaign. “Money raised during our campaign stays local and supports a wide variety of programs and services in Greater New Bedford in the areas of health, education, financial stability, and basic needs.”

This year, the nonprofit is hosting a “Fresh Start for Kids Drive.” This drive will be active until Thursday, October 1and will provide SouthCoast students with basic needs to succeed. “Many students in our local public schools have struggled throughout the pandemic with the most basic needs. By joining together, we can make sure these students have what they need to stay healthy and safe.”

UWGNB is looking for the following items:

  1. Laundry detergent
  2. Shampoo
  3. Soap
  4. Masks
  5. Hand sanitizer
  6. Toothpaste
  7. Toothbrush
  8. CVS/Walgreens gift cards
  9. Cleaning wipes

UWGNB offers two ways to help make a difference in the lives of SouthCoast kids through the drive:

  1. Purchase items off the "Fresh Start for Kids Drive" list at a local store and drop them off at the Big Value parking lot on Thursday, October 1 from 3 to 6 pm. Big Value is located at 718 Dartmouth Street in Dartmouth.
  2. Purchase items on the Amazon Charity list and have them mailed directly to the UWGNB office located at 128 Union St #105 in New Bedford.
