Tourists Flocking to Cape Cod’s New Viral Sensation ‘Staples Rock’
This summer Cape Cod's hottest attraction is absolutely free to see, though your visit might mean waiting in line to snap a much sought-after photo.
In May of 2024, a man drove his car through the front of the Staples store on Route 6A in Orleans. Since then the office supply store has come up with a creative way to prevent that kind of damage from ever happening again.
When a huge rock was unearthed during sewer work in the parking lot, it was jokingly suggested that it stay to protect the building. That joke just happened to create Cape Cod's newest tourist attraction.
"Staples Rock" is a massive boulder that seems to have been placed outside the Staples store entrance this past May. The boulder has since not only gone viral, but also earned itself a marker on Google Maps.
What Makes "Staples Rock: So Great?

Knowing it's been placed in the parking lot to prevent further damage to a store that already had a driver go through the front door adds nicely to the rock's legend as well.
However, it's been the people who have really made this random rock what it is.
People have literally been arriving outside this Staples store each day just to take a picture with this new internet darling. Adults, kids and pets have snapped a selfie or posed for a photo on or with the rock. Someone even added googly eyes to it!
One smart entrepreneur has even had t-shirts designed for this growing South Shore legend.
Why does everyone love this rock so much?
