With over 190 miles of coastline across Massachusetts, the waters surrounding the Bay State are teeming with life.
Of course, with Massachusetts being home to the largest commercial fishing port in the U.S., you might think a multi-colored lobster is the strangest thing in the waters surrounding Cape Cod, Buzzards Bay and the Islands—but think again.

Our local waters are actually filled with some truly bizarre creatures, some of which look more at home in a sci-fi movie than swimming off the shores of New England.
The Most Bizarre Sea Life in Local Waters
While each summer brings its share of shark sightings and deadly Portuguese man o' war jellyfish appearances, the even more bizarre could be lurking just out of sight.

I'd much rather spot a fin in the water than step on a fish that can shock you buried in the sand (because, yes, that is out there).
Are These Creatures Dangerous to Humans?
That's not to say every creature on our list is going to hurt you if you cross its path. Much of the sea life on our list may look terrifying, but isn't harmful to humans at all.
