Mattapoisett’s Turk’s Seafood Stunned by Double Blue Lobster Catch
When it comes to luck on the SouthCoast, Turk’s Seafood in Mattapoisett may have just hit the jackpot.
On Sunday, August 17, the restaurant opened up a fresh crate of lobsters from local fishermen and discovered not one but two ultra-rare blue lobsters inside.
A Once-in-a-Million Find
Blue lobsters are considered a 1-in-2-million catch, their striking color caused by a genetic anomaly that produces an overabundance of a certain protein. To find one in a haul is remarkable, but two in the same delivery?
Practically unheard of.
“What are the chances?? Two blue lobsters spotted in the market today!” Turk’s wrote on Facebook, alongside q photo of the lucky crustaceans.
One-Clawed Wonder
On top of finding two rare lobsters, one of the lobsters was a “cull,” meaning it was missing a claw. While that lobster won’t be on display in a tank, it won’t go to waste either. It’ll be used for lobster meat since deformed or injured lobsters can’t be sold whole.

For those wondering why Turk’s didn’t toss them back into the ocean, co-owner and front of house manager Kaylen Duquette explained it wasn’t an option. By the time lobsters arrive at the restaurant, they’ve already passed the point of return.
“People always ask if we’ll throw rare lobsters back, but once they’re here, it’s too late,” Duquette said.
Besides, most of the people complaining are probably eating a lobster roll while trolling on social media. Unlike the blue lobsters, however, online hypocrites are a dime a dozen.
Lobster Lessons from Turk’s
Duquette, who manages the restaurant’s social media and comes from a long line of fishermen, also shared some fun lobster facts. At Turk’s, customers can pick the size of their lobster, and some even prefer female lobsters for their meaty tails. However, according to Duquette, male lobsters come with a sweet perk.
“The males have sweeter claws,” she said, and with her family’s fishing history, that’s a fact worth trusting.
A Lucky Haul for Turk’s
Whether you believe in luck or just good timing, Turk’s Seafood scored big with this catch. Two blue lobsters in a single haul is a rarity few seafood markets will ever see.
It just goes to show, you never know what the traps will catch.
