Westport Native Turns Car Club Into Community Mission
What began as a simple love for cars has grown into something much more meaningful for Westport native Tim Pavao, who founded the Mass Wagens Car Club in 2023. This summer, he's using that passion to give back to the community that shaped him.
On Saturday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Second Annual Mass Wagens Car Show rolls into Longplex Family & Sports Center in Tiverton, with a clear mission: to support the Westport Food Pantry. Admission is just $5 for spectators, and all proceeds from those ticket sales, as well as half of the raffle funds, will be donated to the pantry.
“I grew up in Westport, and while it may seem like everyone there is well-off, the truth is many families quietly struggle,” Pavao said. “This show is about giving back to the town that raised me and supporting those who need it most.”

All Makes and Models Welcome
The show welcomes all makes and models, with registration at the gate for $20 per vehicle. Categories include classics, antiques, domestics, imports, trucks, Mopars, Jeeps and hot rods. While Mass Wagens was originally founded as a Volkswagen-based group, Pavao said the events are open to everyone who loves cars.

Inside Longplex, guests can grab a bite at the Sports Kitchen, and car lovers can enter to win raffle buckets filled with car care goods, courtesy of local O’Reilly Auto Parts stores. Each bucket varies, but may include detailing supplies, air fresheners and more.
How the Car Club Got Started
Pavao said he was inspired to start Mass Wagens after watching another car club build camaraderie through gatherings and fundraisers. What started small has grown fast, culminating in last year’s inaugural show, which raised over $1,500 for the Westport Food Pantry.
“That first show blew me away,” Pavao said. “The turnout was incredible, and everyone was so supportive. That’s what motivated me to go even bigger this year.”
A Passion for Cars, A Heart for the Community
Although his own car will be on display, Pavao won’t be competing. As one of the event judges, alongside his fiancée’s father, he’s staying focused on creating a fair and welcoming environment for all.
“Even if you’ve never been to a car show, this is a great one to check out,” he said. “You get to see rare cars, meet new people, and know you’re helping others while doing it.”
In case of rain, the event will be held Saturday, July 27.
