Every year, it seems we relearn how to drive in snow. Fortunately, AAA offers tips to make sure we stay safe on the roads.

Here are some pieces of advice we should follow to be safe. AAA says you should follow winter driving tips and be cautious on the roadways in bad weather.

Avoid driving when you are fatigued and make sure you have the proper amount of rest.

Watch the weather reports and delayed your trip if the bad weather is expected. Let others know your transportation route.

Make sure your car is peaking operating condition and that you have at least half full tank of gas to prevent the lines from freezing up. Your tires should be properly inflated.

Use your seatbelt and avoid using cruise control and the parking brake in cold, rain, snowy and slippery conditions.

Always look and steer where you want to go.

Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for regaining traction and avoiding skills. Make sure to accelerate and decelerate slowly and take time to slow down for a stoplight.

If you don’t have to go out, stay at home. You might be confident in your abilities to drive in the snow, but others might not have the same confidence and could put you at risk.
