This First Winter In School Has Been Brutal on Our Immune Systems
It is the winter of a million tissues in my house and we're not even half way through yet.
The saying about kids and colds seems to be 100 percent true and my daughter is kind enough to bring everything home this year.
Not even halfway through January and I think my kids have been both healthy for about five days since October.
My oldest went to school for the very first time this year. And since we were lucky enough to have family become our in-home daycare, she was never really around kids on a daily basis like she is now.
Sure she picked up a cold here and there, but for the first 4 and 1/2 years of her life she literally never had a sick visit to the doctor. Never.
Cut to the first year of preschool and her immune system is getting a work out!
She's had colds, threw up for the first time (since being a baby of course) and even had her first ear infection just before Christmas. I'm not even sure I remember the last time she didn't have a runny nose.
And in true kid fashion, she passes nearly everything on to her sister. Which I hope just means when she gets to school it won't be as bad?
Still the constants colds don't seem to be slowing her down. Her energy is pretty much endless no matter how much snot is coming out of her face.
And I'm pretty sure with the worst of the New England winter months in our future, plenty more snot is coming too.
