There’s a New Bar in Fairhaven With 7 Kitchens, but Not the Ones You Cook In
It was a typical work day at Fun 107 until I was informed about a new bar in town within walking distance of the studio.
Unsurprisingly, I was game and already three steps out the door.
My co-worker Kristen and I were on a mission to check out what was in store but little did I know that I was about to get an impromptu workout in. Kristen had taken me over to the brand new Southcoast Pickleball facility on David Drown Boulevard in Fairhaven.
A little unorthodox for a bar, but I was open to checking it out.
Upon entry, I was blown away that a bunch of pickleball courts now stand where I have so many childhood memories. This building used to house Carousel Skating Rink.
My eyes drifted from the nets to the beer and my initial thought was, "Man, this is pretty nifty!"
I was no longer fixated on catching a mid-day buzz and instead wanted -- no, needed --to find out more about this trendy pickleball game that everyone I know has been raving about. Three people were playing. Hoping they could use a fourth, I asked if I could join.
When I tell you I was hooked from the get-go, I did not want to leave.
Also, I was today years old when I learned that a portion of each pickleball court was referred to as a "kitchen" and this place had seven of them.
After I worked up a good sweat with my new friends, it was time to cool down with an ice-cold hard seltzer, because let's face it, I earned it. The facility opens at 9 a.m. and has all the amenities needed to escape the house for the day -- from Monday Night Football on one of several big-screen TVs to a row of barstools waiting patiently for you to order a beer, hard seltzer or wine.
I've found my new favorite fitness/drinking combo place to escape the world for an hour or two. Oh, and by the way, there's a rumor of mini-golf and ice cream returning to the property, so stay tuned.
