A bill that could give Massachusetts an official state sandwich was given initial approval today by state lawmakers and you may be surprised by the choice.

When's the last time you enjoyed a fluffernutter?

Cause the gooey, peanut buttery delight could soon be Massachusetts' state sandwich.

Apparently Marshmellow Fluff was invented in Somerville all the way back in 1917. And it is still made right here in Mass at a small plant in Lynn. Who knew!

A voice vote on the bill was held today during an informal session of the House of Representatives and was filed by former state Rep. Kathi-Anne Reinstein of Revere. The bill still needs a second vote in the House before heading to the Senate, so it's not quite official yet.

So do you think the fluffernutter should be the state sandwich?
