Tom Brady wasn't even playing in last night's Super Bowl, but he still managed to make New England breathless. This time, however, it wasn't because of his on-field play, it was because of the script from his Hulu commercial that aired in the second quarter of the Niners-Chiefs showdown.

As soon as I heard Brady's voice and saw the black and white theme, I knew this was going to close the circle that had been gnawing at Patriots fans for much of last week. Although Brady's black and white photo entering/leaving the Gillette Stadium visitors tunnel bore an incredible resemblance to a Kobe Bryant photoshoot, it turns out it had nothing to do with a tribute to the Laker legend.

Instead, it was a cleverly written commercial for Brady.

"They say all good things must come to an end. That the best just know when to walk away. So to my teammates, my family, and most of all, my fans. You deserve to hear this from me," Brady then cut into a pitch for Hulu. He ended the commercial by saying, "But me? I'm not going anywhere."

I was shocked to see some people I consider very knowledgable sports fans taking this as a serious announcement that Brady was remaining a Patriot. While there is certainly a good chance that Brady stays in New England, I don't think for a minute that last night's commercial was any sort of announcement like that. At most, this is Brady simply saying he's staying with the NFL.

The Super Bowl commercial coincided with a report that the Patriots are willing to pay Tom Brady up to $30 million to remain with the team.
