The Flat Sheet Debate Is Keeping Me Up at Night
I recently moved and couldn't wait to pick out new items to make our new apartment feel like home. I am a strong believer that your bedroom should be your sanctuary, so I took extra time to invest in the things that would elevate comfort and minimize clutter.
The first purchase was a light gray sheet set. We went with a higher thread count and this particular set had all the bells and whistles including two nice pillowcases, a fitted sheet, and a flat sheet. My mom was about to buy a similar package for my younger brother as a gift but put it back on the shelf because he is not a fan of the flat sheet, also known as a top sheet. I thought it was weird, but didn't think too much of it at the time. It could just be a "Ben thing."
However, a friend recently posted on Facebook about a controversial debate she had with her mom on how to properly make a bed and it turns out that there are a lot of people who abandon the flat sheet altogether. It seems to be a thing among the younger generations, and I cannot understand how it got such a bad rap.

I have always made my bed with a fitted sheet, flat sheet, comforter, and then add a heated blanket in the winter months because I cannot handle the cold at all. I can see how some people may think that a flat sheet is a waste and adds to the laundry pile, but not having one increases the frequency that you have to wash your comforter or duvet cover.
Personally, I try to only wash my comforter every other week. Depending on the season, I could even stretch it out to a month. It's a lot of work to clean, and I don't want to risk ruining it with each cycle.
Are you for or against the top sheet?
