Swansea Police Arrest Somerset Man for Attempted Kidnapping
SWANSEA (WBSM) — Swansea Police have arrested and charged a suspect related to an attempted kidnapping.
According to Lt. Mark Foley, police arrested Michael Nutbrown, 60, of Somerset this afternoon on charges of attempted kidnapping related to an incident that happened March 28 in Swansea.
On March 28 at about 2:45 p.m., Swansea Police were notified that a man allegedly attempted to lure two 13-year-old girls into his car behind the Target on Grand Army of the Republic Highway.
The girls had been walking down the bicycle patch on Milford Road, when Nutbrown allegedly approached them and asked if they wanted a ride.
The girls asked him to repeat what he said, and then ran away.

According to Foley, Nutbrown was captured on security cameras in the Target parking lot exiting his vehicle and removing items from the front and back seats and placing them in the trunk.
“Investigators believe he did this to make room for the girls,” Foley said. “He then walked away from the vehicle multiple times and stared down the road as the girls walked closer toward his vehicle.”
Swansea Police identified Nutbrown as the suspect earlier today and served an arrest warrant at his home on County Street in Somerset. He was taken into custody without incident.
"This was fantastic teamwork between our Patrol and Detective division in identifying this suspect and placing him under arrest," Foley said. “We would also like to commend these brave young girls for doing the right thing and avoiding a stranger who approached them and then telling a trusted adult about the situation.”
“In addition, we would like to take this time to remind the public, especially parents with children, to travel in groups, there is safety in numbers, and stick together,” he said. “Do not accept a ride with anyone who is a stranger and keep your distance if an incident such as this arises. If you find yourself in such a situation, make noise, draw attention, and run to a trusted adult.”
Nutbrown is expected to be arraigned in Fall River District Court on Monday.
