Police says a 41-year-old Swansea man was intoxicated when he led Rehoboth police and state troopers on a 24-mile pursuit through Rehoboth, Seekonk and Barrington, RI before things ended with a crash in Swansea on Saturday night.

Robert Lowney Jr. was allegedly first seen driving erratically after leaving the scene of a disturbance in Swansea. When officers tried to pull him over, he picked up speed and started to lead police on a high-speed pursuit.

The chase went through several towns before Lowney crashed his van into a fence on Old Stevens Road in Swansea. He tried to flee on foot from there, but was located by police. He still tried to resist arrest once they caught him and as police told the Herald News, eventually had to be “tased in order to be safely placed under arrest.”

Lowney faces several charges, including his third OUI offense and is due in Taunton District Court for arraignment today.
