When you think of New England, relaxed and laid back are not typically words that come to mind.

In fact, most Americans would describe a typical New Englander as a little rude and cold. Sports fans across the country probably think New Englanders are intense and boastful, bordering on obnoxious.

So when a new survey of the most relaxed cities in America came out with a Massachusetts town on top, it was a bit surprising. And when a second Massachusetts city made the top ten as well, heck we were floored.

Lawnstarter.com is a site that helps people scheduled someone to mow their lawn. Yet, they somehow got into surveys as well.

Their most recent question to America? How relaxed are you?

Yes, a lawn mowing company conducted a survey into how relaxed cities across the country were by comparing 500 of the biggest cities in the U.S. by eight stress-related categories.

Based on metrics for things like housing affordability, the average length of a workday, depression rates, and access to mental health providers, they ranked their 500 cities from most relaxed to least relaxed and came out with several seriously stress-free Massachusetts towns.

In their top ten for 2024's Most Relaxed U.S. Cities, Cambridge came in at #6 and Newton was the most stress-free at #1.

Other notable Massachusetts neighborhoods on the list was Somerville at #32, Quincy at #81, Boston managed to land #132 and Lowell was #196.

Rhode Island had only one city in the Top 200 with Cranston landing at #188.
