Your favorite Subway sandwich shop could be closing its doors. The sandwich chain says they plan to close 500 locations nationwide by the end of the year.

No word on which Subway shops will be closing, but the company's CEO Suzanne Greco told Bloomberg,

We want to be sure that we have the best location. We focused in the past on restaurant count. We’re focused now on strengthening market share.

I had kind of been wondering what was up with the over-the-top Subway commercials lately, but I guess they're just another attempt at bringing in some customers.

Since 2016, Subway has already shut down 800 locations after struggling to boost sales over the last few years.

Another 500 will go by the end of 2018, though no specific locations were mentioned in Greco's interview with Bloomberg.

Greco also told the business site that the real growth opportunities are overseas. Though Subway may be closing hundreds of stores stateside, they are expanding with over 1,000 new sandwich shops in the U.K., Germany, South Korea, India, China and Mexico.

Despite the recent closures, there are still over 25,000 Subway locations in the United States.

So if there's one you love getting your sandwiches from...get them while you can, cause you never know which shop will be closing next.
