The beloved Star Drive-In restaurant in East Taunton will close for good in March 2026, owner Erika Madden confirmed in an emotional announcement early Friday morning.

Rumors Turned Reality

“It is with a very heavy heart that I need to address the rumors that are out there,” Madden shared on social media. “I thought I could wait for this announcement for several more months, but I am getting messages, loyal customers are asking, and it has even been mentioned at a Zoning Board meeting. I just went to the local gas station and was told that they heard the Star Drive-In is closing.”

The rumors, she confirmed, are true.

“I have had to make the very difficult decision to close at the end of the terms of my lease in March 2026," she wrote.

Tensions Behind the Decision

While Madden didn’t go into full detail, she alluded to tensions with the property owners, who also operate land across the street, including a recently constructed storage facility.

“Many within the city government and various departments know what has transpired over the last 4 years,” she wrote. “They know what is going on and they have not offered any help or assistance, even after my repeated pleas for help.”

What Does This Mean?

This means that unless there is a change of heart from the operators of the Star Drive-In, we only will be able to enjoy the historic building and their meals for roughly seven more months.
Fans of the restaurant wished Madden luck and hopefully wondered if something could be done to save the Star Drive-In citing the historic nature of the building.
