Hey SouthCoast, What Do You Think of Tom Brady’s Portuguese?
There’s not a person on the SouthCoast that doesn’t know who Tom Brady is, but did you know he could speak Portuguese? He showed off for reporters, but how did he do? I need some help from my SouthCoast Portuguese friends.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback was speaking to the media about Super Bowl LV on Sunday, February 7 when a member of Portuguese media caught his attention.
The interviewer behind the camera asked, “Could you say hi to your many, many fans in Brazil who don’t know how many Portuguese words you know and can say? They would be so happy.”
I got nervous for Tom. Does he even know the language? But then I remembered that he was married to a Brazilian supermodel, so I’m sure he picked up a phrase or two.
He flashed a grin to the reporter and said, “Let me say this. My son, who is 10, his Portuguese is amazing. My eight-year-old daughter is fluent in Portuguese, and unfortunately, their dad is way behind.”
However, he managed to pick up some things from his wife and kids who frequently talk Portuguese at home.
“My wife will say, ‘Papai nao sabe nada,' which means, ‘Daddy doesn’t know anything.’ I kind of know what they’re saying, even if they’re taking shots at Daddy," he said.
I don’t know about you, but I was extremely impressed. I am not at liberty to critique his second language, so I need my Portuguese friends to grade him.
Does he pass the test or was this an epic fail?
