
Portugal’s Top 30 Most Popular Women Names
There's no doubt about it, when it comes to the SouthCoast, there's no shortage of Portuguese names.
From New Bedford and Fall River to Dartmouth and Westport, the region is home to one of the largest Portuguese-American communities in the country, so names passed down through generations are part of everyday life.
The other day, I was mindlessly scrolling Instagram when I stumbled across a list from a Portuguese meme page ranking the 30 most popular female names in Portugal. Naturally, my curiosity got the best of me, and I had to see how many I recognized. As expected, familiar names like Maria and Fátima made the list.

A Few Names That May Surprise You
What surprised me, though, were some of the names farther down the list. A handful were completely new to me, and I couldn't remember ever hearing them around here. It was a good reminder that while our area has deep Portuguese roots, there's still plenty to learn about the Portugal's culture and traditions.
