The SouthCoast hasn’t seen a significant snowfall in what feels like forever.

Every time a snowstorm is hyped up, it ends up being a flop; just a light covering, or worse, it melts away by the next morning.

This is New England, after all. Where’s the snow we all expect this time of year?

After seeing chatter on social media about possible snow this week, I reached out to ABC 6 meteorologist Kristina Shalhoup for the lowdown on what we can expect.

Spoiler alert: it’s not exactly a blizzard, but it could cause some early morning headaches.

“While this storm won't set any records, it could be a disruptor to the morning commute,” Shalhoup said “Snow begins not long after midnight and tapers off around 4:30 or 5 a.m. Toward the tail-end of this storm, we're looking at a little mixing or even a few raindrops for the SouthCoast. Heads up for slick spots on the roads as you're heading out the door in the morning!”

As for totals, she predicted the SouthCoast will see up to about an inch of snow. That’s enough to coat the roads but not quite enough to dust off the sleds.

Shalhoup added that the weather won’t clear up entirely after the storm.

“Later in the day, we're left with a few more showers or snow showers, and it'll be quite breezy as well! Gusts up to about 25 mph or so," she said.

So while it’s not the major snowfall many New Englanders have been craving, it’s still a good idea to set the alarm a little earlier to handle potentially icy roads.
