15 SouthCoast Hotspots to Watch the Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is coming up soon. Even though the Patriots couldn’t be further from the game, the Super Bowl remains one of the few television events that the entire nation still seems to watch.
For the longest time, I considered the Super Bowl a "stay-at-home" event. There was no way on God’s green earth that I would have watched a Super Bowl at a restaurant or bar during the Brady era. I would never have risked missing a play or not hearing important in-game analysis about injuries, strategy, etc.
Even at home, Super Bowl parties can cause issues. Comedian Bill Burr jokes about Super Bowl parties being filled with people who haven’t watched a game all season and ask a bunch of stupid questions during key moments.
No, in my mind, the Super Bowl has always been a home event—until recent years, that is. With the growing popularity of cutting the cord, more and more people are finding themselves searching for restaurants and bars that will be showing the game.
Cable cutters used to be able to pay the NFL $6.99 a month to watch select games. The games would show up on a phone or laptop and could be cast onto a big screen. That option no longer exists at that price, leaving fans with the choice of either watching the game on a phone screen or an iPad—not exactly ideal for a group setting.
There are a few key factors fans will be looking for when choosing a restaurant or bar to watch the game:
- Is there a comfortable place to watch the game with an unobstructed view of one or more TVs?
- Do they serve the right type of food and appetizers?
- How far away is it from home?
