Somerset Hot Dog Shop Serves Up Spooky Mashed Potato Wieners
Halloween isn’t just about candy anymore. One Somerset hot dog shop is proving that spooky season can be just as tasty on a bun.
For the third year in a row, Somerset’s staple hot dog stop County Fare is serving up Halloween-inspired dogs that are turning heads – and expanding stomachs.
The Monster Mashed Dog has quickly become a fan favorite and from what I hear on Facebook, it's a must-try. It's a grilled hot dog topped with creamy mashed potatoes, melted cheese, and crispy bacon.
At first, it sounds like something out of a mad scientist’s kitchen, but as long as you skip the ketchup and mustard, it’s pure comfort food magic.
A Family-Run Classic With a Twist
Owner Ruth-Ann Vieira took over the nearly 40-year-old shop about eight years ago and has since made it her mission to keep things fun, creative and a little unpredictable.

That’s where creations like The BOO-ffalo Dip Dog come in – a toasted hot dog smothered in buffalo chicken dip, topped with bleu cheese crumbles, and given a quick crisp in the oven. It’s rich, spicy, and hauntingly addictive.
From Tradition to Innovation
While the Halloween dogs steal the spotlight this time of year, Vieira said her personal favorite is The Mozambique Dog, loaded with ground chouriço, spicy Mozambique sauce, and potato sticks. That's just about as Portuguese as it gets, but with an American twist.

With only a few days left before Halloween, Vieira encouraged customers to swing by and sink their teeth into these seasonal specials before they vanish like a ghost in the night.
It sounds like the perfect mix of spooky and savory, and if you ask me, that’s what Halloween’s all about.
