Somerset Mourns the Loss of 10-Year-Old Selina Oehman
Fun 107 has learned that 10-year-old Selina Oehman from Somerset has passed away.
Selina had been battling DIPG, a very rare form of extremely aggressive cancer. At the beginning of the year, Selina appeared to be a happy, healthy 9-year-old; however, she started complaining about frequent headaches. By the end of February, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Doctors were brutally honest with the Somerset family: they weren't expecting Selina to survive much longer.
Selina, however, had other plans. Her mother believes that she willed herself to stay alive for the Ed Sheeran concert that took place last month at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. As the concert drew closer, Selina's mother, Michelle, began to reach out online to see if anyone could help her baby girl have one final wish - to meet Ed Sheeran.
After seeing Michelle's plea online, Fun 107 passed the information on to Sheeran's record label, Atlantic Records. Ed couldn't say "yes" fast enough. When we broke the news to Michelle, it was one of the hardest phone calls we've ever had to make.
The pop superstar took time out of his pre-concert routine to meet with Selina and her family.Although Selina hadn't spoken in months, her mom and dad told us that they just knew by her breathing and energy that she was over the moon.
Fun 107 offers our sincere condolences to the Oehman family, and the entire town of Somerset, for the loss of this beautiful little girl.
