We can expect to see severe weather today with rain, high winds, thunderstorms, and even a slight chance of a tornado here on the Southcoast this morning.

Massachusetts doesn't typically see tornadoes...particularly in October.  There have been 3 October tornadoes, however in the past 40 years according to WCVB 5. We can expect to see wind gusts from 40 to 60 mph throughout the state.

The chances of seeing a tornado is about 5% up to 10 a.m., this morning  but you can expect downed power lines and tree branches. More rain will develop in southeastern Massachusetts as the morning goes on, but Central Mass will get the most severe part of the storm including the Boston area.

Flooding is another concern today, as heavy downpours could overwhelm drains and lead to more water in the streets than you're comfortable with.

The tornado chances are up because of the unusual high temperatures lately along with a high due point. Connecticut and western Massachusetts has already seen parts of the storm, but no tornado so far.
