Pier 1 Imports is definitely closing local stores, but one location has already found a new tenant for the retail space.

While Pier 1 in the RK Taunton Crossing plaza clears out merchandise with their going out of business sale, footwear retailer Skechers is preparing to restock the store shelves.

That's because as soon as the retail space is available, Skechers will start work on their newest location.

So housewares out, footwear in.

Skechers seems to be the one retailer that is actually opening more locations in the past few years rather than closing them.

They have recently arrived in Seekonk and Warwick, RI (just to name a few) and now this latest retail space in Taunton that could be open as early as May.

Skechers currently has over 3,300 stores worldwide, so clearly business is very good for the shoe company.

Pier 1 Imports on the other hand is going the way of many retail chains as of late.

They reported earlier this week that about 450 stores will close nationwide to help the company stay viable.

Taunton has started their clearance sale already and apparently has been prepared to close for months now.

The Warwick, RI location on Bald Hill Rd is also closing and have a 70 percent off sale happening right now.

No word on what will replace that former Pier 1 after they clear out, since Skechers has already opened a brand new store down the road from there.

But if you were ready to shop Pier 1's going out of business sales, you'd better get shopping soon.
