SANDWICH (WBSM) — Authorities have charged a Sandwich man with the murder of his sister.

In a joint release, Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois and Sandwich Police Chief Jason Keene announced that Kenneth Beltrame, 67, was charged with murder on March 24.

Sandwich Police received a call on that date requesting a wellbeing check on a woman at her Sandwich residence. Police arrived to find Beltrame outside the home. He told police that his sister was inside the home, and she was deceased.

Police Discover Victim With Signs of Trauma

Inside the residence, police found the body of Jennifer Beltrame, 61. According to the authorities, she had “obvious signs of violent trauma to her body.”

Investigators Conduct Interviews, Execute Search Warrant

Sandwich Police detectives and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s Office began investigating, including conducting several interviews and executing a search warrant at the residence.

“Mr. Beltrame, upon being given his Miranda warnings, provided an interview with investigators that was electronically recorded,” the authorities said.

Arraignment Scheduled in Barnstable Court

The investigation led to Kenneth Beltrame being charged with his sister’s murder. He will be arraigned today in Barnstable District Court.

Authorities Offer Condolences to Ms. Beltrame's Family

“District Attorney Galibois and Chief Keene would like to extend their condolences for the loss of a loved one,” the authorities said. “DA Galibois and Chief Keene also recognize the thorough and collaborative effort by investigators that resulted in charges being brought swiftly.”

The Victims in the New Bedford Highway Murders

The New Bedford highway murders took place in 1988, with the bodies discovered into 1989. The killer is confirmed to have killed nine women and suspected of murdering at least two more. Although there were at least three different men considered as suspects by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the murders remain unsolved and the families of the victims are still searching for closure.
