This Rhode Island Ice Cream Cone Looks a Little Fishy
I wore flip-flops to work today knowing that this could be the last week I get to do that before I have to pack them away. I’m clinging on to the last bit of summer weather and I’m not ashamed of it. Winter is coming but until then, I’ll soak up the sun. That’s why I was so happy to hear about this cool ice cream shop in Providence. It’s not like any other store we have around here, so I’m determined to make the trip to Helado Taiyaki on Dean Street as soon as possible.
Linnette Lopez Torres started her business with a food truck in the summer of 2020 but opened a brick-and-mortar back in February of 2021. This is Rhode Island's first taiyaki shop and has a Latin twist to boot.
Taiyaki is a Japanese pastry that is customarily filled with a sweetened red bean paste, custard, chocolate, or sweet potato. Torres fills her creation with elaborate ice cream and toppings.
Each of her concoctions is an inspired piece of art worthy enough for more than just Instagram, but we’re not complaining as we scroll through these pretty pictures. The little fish-shaped cone is baked to perfection and the ice cream is flawlessly swirled inside its mouth.
I’m a big fan of Halloween candy, so the Trick-or-Treat Taiyaki Cone is calling my name. This thing features a chocolate Nutella taiyaki filled with “spooky vanilla soft serve,” M&M’s, a white-chocolate marshmallow ghost, a Halloween Kit Kat, and Candy Corn. Boo-ya!
