REHOBOTH (WBSM) — A person has died on the Rehoboth property where the body of a missing girl was found last month.

Emergency Response to County Street Property

According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III, Rehoboth Police and the Rehoboth Fire Department responded just before 7 a.m. this morning to 107 County Street in Rehoboth for a report of two unresponsive adults.

They arrived to find an unresponsive male and female in a “workstyle van” on the property, according to the D.A.’s Office, which said it appeared they were using the van as living quarters.

The male was pronounced deceased at the scene by Rehoboth EMS. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The female was taken to Morton Hospital in Taunton and then transported to Boston Hospital. Her condition was not provided.

The D.A.’s Office said the matter “is not deemed to be suspicious at this time.”

Murder Charges Against Gregory Groom

It was the home of her boyfriend Gregory Groom, 22, who was arrested and initially charged with aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness. Those charges were in relation to an alleged assault that occurred when Monteiro went to Groom’s home to retrieve some items, and was never seen again.

Once her remains were found, Groom was also charged with her murder.

The Victims in the New Bedford Highway Murders

The New Bedford highway murders took place in 1988, with the bodies discovered into 1989. The killer is confirmed to have killed nine women and suspected of murdering at least two more. Although there were at least three different men considered as suspects by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the murders remain unsolved and the families of the victims are still searching for closure. The cases are all featured on the unsolved cases page of the Bristol County District Attorney's Office website.
