Rehoboth Stranger Saves Christmas Spirit After Family’s Decorations Stolen
In the heart of Rehoboth, where quiet streets are usually filled with the simple joys of small-town life, one family’s holiday spirit was stolen – literally.
On Sunday, December 1, Karson Kimpel of Mason Street was devastated to find that her 20-foot inflatable snowman had been stolen from her front lawn. The snowman, a centerpiece of her holiday decorations, had brought a touch of joy during an otherwise difficult season.
“Someone stole our snowman on Mason Street – I am saddened by this,” Kimpel shared on Facebook.
Although speculation that the wind might have carried the giant ornament away, Kimpel confirmed that “The thieves left the rocks that held it down. I honestly feel sick.”
The theft hit Kimpel hard. As the primary caregiver for her ailing parents, decorating for the holidays had become a source of comfort and a way to momentarily escape the challenges of daily life.
But less than 24 hours after the snowman disappeared, an anonymous act of kindness turned the story around.
Kimpel awoke to find a surprise on her doorstep – a new inflatable decoration, along with a heartfelt handwritten note from a stranger who had heard about the theft.
“Thank you to the exceptionally kind person who dropped off a blow-up and a wonderful handwritten card,” Kimpel wrote. “My heart was truly touched! My parents live with us at the farm, and they are sick. I find myself walking out the front door a lot each day just to look at the lights, breathe, and regroup before I go back inside to care for them. Anyway, a huge THANK YOU from one mom to another.”
The anonymous good Samaritan reminded Kimpel – and the entire community – that the holiday season is about more than decorations. It’s about kindness, generosity, and lifting one another up when times are tough.
As the new inflatable now stands proudly on Mason Street, it serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder that, in Rehoboth, the true spirit of Christmas is alive and well.
