Red Sox Make Deal For Bullpen Arm
Prior to landing top starting pitcher Chris Sale, the Boston Red Sox started the day off by trading for Milwaukee Brewers reliever Tyler Thornburg.
Thornburg, who had been a setup man while in Milwaukee, figures to land into a similar spot in the Boston bullpen.
In 67 appearances last season, the righty posted a stellar 2.15 ERA and was even penciled in as the team's closer after the traded away Jeremy Jeffress at the trade deadline. Thonrburg did well in that role as well, closing out 13 games for the Brew Crew.
In Boston, Thornburg will likely be pegged to set up for dominant closer Craig Kimbrel.
To get the right-handed reliever, Boston was forced to part with major leaguer Travis Shaw, who won the third base job during spring training but regressed throughout the season last year, and two minor leaguers. The team will also send cash considerations to Milwaukee.
