Cult Favorite Maven’s Deli Expanding With New Providence Spot
PROVIDENCE (WBSM) — Nearly two years after Maven’s Delicatessen brought the authentic Jewish deli concept to Pawtucket, it now looks to expand with a second location slated to open in Providence this fall.
It was announced today that Maven’s Jr. will be opening on Thayer Street in Providence’s East Side.
“Maven’s Jr. will serve the same scratch-made, comforting flavors that have made Maven’s a cult favorite – this time in a small, fast-casual setting perfect for students, locals and visitors on the go,” Maven’s announced in a release.
An Impressive Restaurant Resume
Maven’s Delicatessen had long been the dream of Jason Sugarman, a noted restaurateur with decades of experience as the owner of and partner in Asia Grille, an owner and franchisee in Pokéworks, and a franchisee in Johnny Rockets.
He opened Maven’s Delicatessen at 727 East Avenue in Pawtucket in December 2023, serving up from-scratch Jewish comfort food such as house-cured pastrami, hand-rolled bagels, matzo ball soup, challah French toast and more.

Maven’s has since received rave reviews, and at one point after its opening was so overwhelmed that it had to temporarily close for the staff to catch its breath.
This past spring it expanded for the first time, opening up the Little Maven’s kiosk at Tidewater Landing, the brand-new stadium that is home to Rhode Island FC of the United Soccer League.

What Can We Expect From Maven’s Jr.?
It’s being described as “Thayer Street meets tradition,” where it will serve not only the neighborhood residents but also students from Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design.
“Maven’s Jr. will be designed for quick service, takeout, and counter seating, offering a curated menu of best-selling classics, sandwiches, bagels with schmear, sweets, and coffee – all crafted with the same care and culinary chops that define the Mavens’ brand,” according to the release.
Located on Thayer Street, a bustling hub of student life and neighborhood charm, Maven’s Jr. is set to become a new favorite among Brown and RISD students, East Side residents, and anyone craving a proper deli fix.
“The vision behind Maven’s was always about building something lasting — a place where food, memory, and culture come together,” said Sugarman. “Maven’s Jr. lets us bring that same love and flavor to a new audience in a way that’s approachable, fun, and fast.”
