This One Day Turns Providence Rink Into a Giant Art Gallery
For one day each year the Providence Rink becomes an open-air art gallery during the Providence Chalk Art Festival—and that day is coming soon.
What Is the Providence Chalk Art Festival?
On Saturday, May 16, 2026, artists of all ages and skill levels will transform the rink's concrete surface into vibrant works of art. Local artists, families, and visitors can watch the artwork come to life one pastel stroke at a time during an afternoon of fun and creativity at this free-to-attend event.
There's even a chance for you to make a masterpiece of your own.
Watch Artists Transform the Providence Rink
Held in the heart of Rhode Island's capital city, this annual event invites talented chalk artists to come and create an original work of art within a 4-foot or 8-foot square.
Visitors can then walk among the squares taking in the colorful street art under their feet.
How Visitors Can Join the Fun
What makes this event especially fun for families isn't just the professional artists' creations—it's also the chance to join in and create your own chalk design.

There are designated areas around the Providence Rink where kids and amateur artists can grab some chalk and create a little something of their own. The hands-on experience makes this art festival unique by giving everyone who attends a chance to leave a masterpiece behind.
More Than Just Chalk Art
Beyond the artwork, the festival features live music, food vendors and plenty of family-friendly activities. It's a great event for getting outside, wandering among the artwork and hopefully enjoying a sunny, spring day in the city.
