I Found the Best Fried Chicken in Providence and It’s So ‘Clucking’ Good
"I give it a billion out of 10," my son said as we left Honeybird in East Providence, Rhode Island.
He's five and at this point he and his three-year-old sister have become chicken tender connoisseurs. We had just devoured the most delicious lunch; quite possibly the best meal I've had in a long time.
On the table? Chicken wings, chicken tenders and a fried chicken sandwich, plus a couple of go-to sides.
My children are pretty good eaters. However, when they not only clean their plates but also rave about each piece, I know they mean business – and they weren't alone.

My husband and I took a few bites of the wings or chicken sandwich and looked up at one another to say things like "phenomenal" or "everything is delicious" or simply "wow, that's good." This went on for probably far longer than necessary, but you catch my drift.
Chef and owner Nick Rabar and his wife Tracy have outdone themselves yet again with their third restaurant. They added Honeybird to their list of successes in 2021 and become a local hotspot. The Southern-inspired kitchen and cocktail location joins Avenue N American Kitchen in Rumford and a second Avenue N in Providence.

Now, back to the chicken. There's so much to choose from and you honestly can't go wrong with any menu item, plus the portions are absurd. One chicken tender is easily the size of three you get at most places. We watched a giant platter arrive to a table next to us which sent our jaws to the floor. Not only are the portions great, the taste is unmatched.
Here's *exactly* what we ordered:
- Six piece chicken wings with honey Cholula sauce (it's a sweet and spicy combo that I highly recommend)
- Fried Chicken Sandwich with Honeybird sauce on the side for dipping
- Four piece chicken tenders OG style; we kept these plain for the kids and man were they incredible
- Honeybird seasoned fries
- sweet potato tater tots
If you want to have some of the best fried chicken, head to Honeybird in East Providence.
Before you rule it out because it's "all the way" in Rhode Island, it's exactly 33 minutes from our Fun 107 station in Fairhaven. Sometimes it takes longer to find a parking spot in downtown New Bedford. No offense.
I promise it'll be worth the drive. Now I'm off to go enjoy my leftovers.
