The Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, MA, closed its shores when blood was spotted in the water.

The purple flag was flown signaling dangerous marine life in the water at around 12:40 p.m. to warn beach goers.

For about an hour, the beach was closed but no shark was spotted. However, the blood was seen by a group of seals so it is believed that a shark may have killed one of them.

There has been an increase in shark sightings and it has led to heightened vigilance by officials, but has not deterred local beach goers from enjoying the water.

Everyone at the beach was safe and enjoyed their day after the waters had been reopened.
