We here on the SouthCoast love our Portuguese desserts but we also love our coffee. Now we can have both at the same time.

I'm pretty sure I had my first ever pastéis de nata – or more commonly, natas – when I was maybe eight from Sunrise Bakery. My Portuguese grandmother would give me the fifty cents they cost back then, about 20 years ago. They were delicious, without a doubt, and I'd always want more than one.

It wasn't until I took my first trip to Lisbon, Portugal a few years ago and had freshly-made, still-warm natas that I became obsessed. I purchased a dozen of them to bring home, and let's just say they didn't even make it onto the plane because I ate them all.

I guess you could say I'm a fan of these custard tart delights.

So this has me thinking, this year at the Portuguese feast I'm going to make it through the weekend with my Nata Latte and my natas martini. Forget the Madeira wine, that stuff sneaks up on you.
