My latest visit to Portsmouth Publick House in Portsmouth, Rhode Island was a surprising one.
I always enjoy the atmosphere and food, but this visit, I tried a few menu items that caught my attention. Did you know Portsmouth Publick House has fantastic Portuguese dishes?

Owner Alan Chaves has combined his passion for food and his Portuguese heritage to create some all-star options.
Portuguese Favorites in Portsmouth
Portsmouth Publick House serves up classics like burgers, pizza and fish and chips. It is known for its 24 beers on tap and an awesome $1 raw bar that's served all day every Friday.

However, the Portuguese dishes on the menu are what I'm calling the sleeper hits, the ones you don't always hear about, but boy are they good.
Top Menu Items
I had one of the best Portuguese steaks I've ever had and that's saying a lot. The SouthCoast is known for having mouthwatering Portuguese cuisine, and I've tried a lot of it.
The perfectly-cooked steak jam-packed with flavor at Portsmouth Publick House is at the top of my list now.

My father's all-time favorite Portuguese meal is Porco à Alentejana, Portuguese pork and littlenecks, and Portsmouth Publick House has a great one. You could drink the sauce. It's that good.
Another great item is Azorean Calamari. This popular appetizer takes traditional Rhode Island calamari (complete with banana peppers) and adds diced chorizo, creating a delicious combination.
