A dog is dead after an unknown suspect threw it from a moving vehicle in Providence on Thursday.

Providence police are asking the public for help in finding the person responsible for the animal's death.

According to NBC 10, the dog was allegedly thrown from a moving vehicle on Route 10 in Providence and was recovered just before 1:30 p.m.

The dog did not make it and as Joe Warzycha of the Rhode Island SPCA told the news station,

There really wasn't much left of the dog, unfortunately,"

Police do not seem to have a description of the vehicle involved in this crime, but do say the dog appeared to be a small breed, like a Jack Russell terrier or a beagle. It was white and brown. Though Warzycha did add

The dog was struck multiple times after being thrown or jumping from the vehicle so we weren't able to really get an accurate description"

Warzycha did not seem to think the dog jumped however and says the suspect would be facing felony charges of abandonment, death resulting as well as possible malicious injury or killing of an animal charges.

Update: **The SPCA now believes the dog was hit by a car on Route10, not thrown from a car. They say the dog had gotten away from its owners and was seen running towards Route 10 just before the report of a dog being thrown from a vehicle was called in. They think the dog was hit hard enough to appear to be thrown, but was not.
