Almost a year to the day after being installed in the Fun 107 studio, the walls came tumbling down.

The plexiglass dividers, similar to the ones that were installed in grocery store check out lines last year, were ceremoniously uninstalled this morning live on the radio.

"Before we do what we're about to do live on the air, I just want to say what we are about to do has been green lighted by the CDC," I said. "It has also been approved and signed off by the Southcoast Health COVID Chief, Dr. Eliesel Lacerda De La Cruz."

Gazelle then played a clip of one of President Reagan's most famous lines, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" We all cheered, then Gazelle followed it up with John Mellencamp singing the lyrics "When the walls come tumblin' down! When the walls come crumblin' crumblin'" as we fumbled to remove the plexiglass dividers that successfully prevented us from passing COVID to one another.

"We'll be able to take pictures together, close together, with no masks!" cheered Maddie.

It's just one of the benefits of being fully vaccinated listed on the CDC's website. For example, after you've received both shots and waited two weeks, you will no longer need to quarantine or get tested if you get exposed to a person who has COVID-19. The only exception would be if you start to experience symptoms after being exposed.

Most of all, though, the three of us each being vaccinated is going to give us some peace of mind that we'll be significantly reducing the risk of contracting and spreading the virus.
