Pete Souza’s Obama Photos to Be Displayed in New Bedford

South Dartmouth native Pete Souza served as the White House photographer from 2009 to 2017, and during that time he took thousands of photos of President Obama and his family.

In April, 50 of those prized photos will be on display at the New Bedford Art Museum/Artworks Downtown.

Director Ashely Occhino says the exhibit will likely attract hundreds of people to the Art Museum who might not otherwise go there, and that's exciting.

"We do have very high expectations for this exhibit. We have a lot of great buzz here in the city, and I really think it's going to be a blockbuster for us," she said.

Occhino says there are two receptions scheduled as part of the event.

"We are hosting a private donor event on April 6th, and Pete Souza will be in attendance for that," she said.

There is also a free public event on AHA Night on April 11, and Occhino is hopeful she can convince Souza to stay in New Bedford an extra week and attend that one as well.

The exhibit at New Bedford Art Museum/Artworks will run from April 11 to June 16.
