New Movies: ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters,’ ‘Movie 43′ and ‘Parker’
This weekend, a classic fairy tale gets a modern twist, one of the biggest casts we've ever heard of assembles, and Jason Statham does his Jason Statham thing. Fantasy-action, comedy and Jason Statham (who is his own genre) provide a nice range of choices at theaters.
'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters'
Fifteen years after Hansel and Gretel left a trail of breadcrumbs through the woods to find their way back home but then were kidnapped and almost eaten by a witch, they're still hunting witches—now with crossbows and stuff. Here's that story.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola
Starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare
'Movie 43'
Multiple directors direct an enormous cast in this un-summarizable series of short comedic films that is rated R because of "strong pervasive crude and sexual content including dialogue, graphic nudity, language, some violence and drug use." That should give you an idea of what to expect.
Directed by Peter Farrelly, Brett Ratner, Rusty Cundieff, James Gunn, Steve Carr
Starring Everyone (see trailer below)
'Parker'
Jason Statham plays a tough, solitary man of few words out for revenge, and along the way he meets a beautiful lady. In other words, it sounds exactly like every other Jason Statham movie—which, by the way, isn't a criticism. If you're one of the many people into that sort of thing, go see this.
Directed by Taylor Hackford
Starring Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Chiklis, Nick Nolte
