NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man is dead after a motorcycle accident at Fort Taber.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office says the operator of the motorcycle, Mark Jones, Jr., 27, of New Bedford, was riding his motorcycle on the Fort Taber access road at about 5:53 p.m. on Wednesday when he lost control of the bike and struck a curb.

Jones was transported to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 7 p.m.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the accident.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, says there was no criminality involved in the accident, which appears to be caused by operator error/inexperience.
