A New Bedford man has been convicted of first degree murder in connection with a 2014 fatal stabbing and robbery.

Marco Shane Ramos, 27, was found guilty of stabbing 22-year-old Alex Silva, also of New Bedford, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn.

The jury heard closing arguments Thursday morning at Fall River Superior Court and returned a verdict later in the day.

Quinn called the July 2014 crime "another example of senseless street violence."

Quinn says Silva was fatally stabbed during an altercation over a bicycle in the South End of the city and later made his way to a nearby police station.

"The victim ended up going to the New Bedford police station in the South End and essentially collapsed and dying soon thereafter," Quinn said.

Silva died from his wounds two days later after being transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Quinn says local surveliance footage recorded part of the crime and was helpful evidence for prosecutor Katie Rayburn.

"The individual was held accountable for another violent fatal street crime and I think that for the family and New Bedford, that's a good thing," Quinn said about the conviction.
