New Bedford Gets Surprise Pop Star Visit From Jason Derulo
It's not every day you get to casually sit down and share some sushi with a global pop star sensation, but that's exactly how my Friday afternoon went.
On May 15, Fun 107 brought Jason Derulo to New Bedford to promote his new album, The Last Dance (Part 1). What started as a low-key promotional stop quickly turned into one of the hottest local talking points of the day. Social media lit up almost instantly once fans and others around the SouthCoast realized Derulo was casually hanging out in the city.
Even his arrival felt more like a presidential motorcade as he pulled up in style with a massive security team.
Jason Derulo Arrived in Style at Cisco Kitchen + Bar
At around 3 p.m., four unmarked black Cadillac Escalades rolled into the parking lot at Cisco Kitchen + Bar with security dressed in suits and wearing headsets waiting nearby. Right away, you could tell something big was about to happen.
A few lucky Fun 107 listeners were invited to enjoy an intimate late lunch alongside Derulo, Michael Rock and myself as part of the visit. Once Derulo arrived, the atmosphere completely shifted as restaurant patrons slowly began realizing who exited the massive tour bus or was sitting just a few feet away from them.
To his credit, Derulo could not have been more down to earth.
Sushi, Selfies and a Mechanical Bull
During the visit, the group was treated to a massive spread of food that included sushi, Boom Boom Shrimp, ribs and what honestly felt like a full-blown feast from the Cisco menu. I even had the chance to film some fun food content with Derulo while we shared sushi and talked music.
What stood out most, though, was how relaxed he was the entire time.
Derulo spent time talking with listeners, answering questions, taking photos with restaurant staff and fans, and never once looked like he was in a rush to leave. For a global superstar with more than 300 million followers across social media, he blended into the SouthCoast surprisingly well.

Before wrapping up the visit, Derulo spotted the mechanical bull set up outside for Cisco's Country Fest and immediately decided to have some fun with it. Like a good sport, he hopped on and posed for photos.
New Bedford Fans Were Loving Every Second
For a couple of hours, New Bedford got to experience something pretty surreal: one of the biggest pop stars on the planet casually hanging out, eating sushi and making memories with his fans.

I've met a lot of celebrities and artist during my time within the music industry and Derulo is hands down in my top three for most humble and all-around super nice guy.
Thank you for swinging through, Derulo. Or should I say (in a sing-song voice) "Jay-son Sushi Rollll"! Best of luck on your latest album and let us know when your next stop on the SouthCoast is so we can share another plate of food together.
