New Bedford Group Gives Back with Halloween Costume Drive For Kids
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — The spirit of giving is happening in New Bedford as the city gears up for a costume drive to help kids transform into their favorite characters this Halloween.
Dressing up as a kid is one of the best things about Halloween. It's the chance to bring your imagination to life, pretending to be your favorite Disney princess or superhero for a day, all while collecting a bucket of candy as you go trick or treating.
The downside to this, however, is the challenge of securing a costume in time for all the festivities, especially when financial hurdles or other obstacles get in the way.
This year, the hunt for the perfect costume will be made easier and more affordable. Downtown New Bedford, Inc. will host a Halloween costume drive for kids under 13 down to toddler age.
Each Halloween season, many of us end up with a collection of costumes that unintentionally gather dust until the following season.
If you find yourself with gently used costumes, this drive allows you to donate them at designated drop-off locations.
Drop-off spots include Calico, Play Arcade, Besteas, Hewn, No Problemo and First Unitarian Church in Downtown New Bedford.
Donations will be accepted until October 5.
The Unitarian Church Community will then host a Halloween costume shop on October 10 and 11, where kids can pick out their costumes days before Halloween. According to Downtown New Bedford, Inc., shoppers will be allowed to take what they want and pay what they can.
All the funds raised will go towards candy for the New Bedford Fall Fest.
