Netflix Filming Juicy New Series in Chatham This Spring

A new Netflix series based on a best-selling beach read will be bringing big name stars to Chatham this spring for filming.

If you have ever read Elin Hilderbrand's New York Times bestseller The Perfect Couple, then you know things are supposed to take place in Nantucket. Instead, film crews will stay on the mainland and let Chatham be a stand-in for the isolated island.

The story follows a bride-to-be about to marry a man from the wealthiest family in Nantucket when the body of her maid-of-honor is found floating in the harbor. Everyone at the wedding becomes a suspect and the hunt for the killer is on.

Who is Starring in The Perfect Couple on Netflix?

The cast of this Netflix series is packed with big name stars. Deadline.com reports that Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Meghann Fahy, Eve Hewson and Jack Reynor are all part of this project.

No wonder there was high concern among neighbors near the series' location about paparazzi. Producers have been asked by local residents to provide 24/7 security and potentially create a "no anchor zone" in the waters around the house where they'll be filming.

Where Will The Perfect Couple Film in Chatham?

Production crews plan to use a private home on Eastward Point as the primary film location, though the exact house has not been revealed. Considering producers need a large, swanky-looking house with plenty of water nearby, we think this Eastward Road home could be a good candidate.

A commercial building near Chatham Perks and Chatham Light Liquors on Orleans Road in North Chatham will be used as the local police station, where several indoor and outdoor scenes are expected to be filmed. Plus beach scenes and a small boating scene will take place in the local waters.

With so many filming locations, lots of set decorations are going to be needed and we know some of those have already been purchased from Buzzards Bay Antiques on Main Street in Buzzards Bay.

Owner David Cowan told us a truck from Above the Line Production Rentals came to pick up a large Italian red leather loveseat and chair for somewhere on set. Definitely can't-miss furniture in the final series.

When Does Filming of The Perfect Couple Begin?

Though the Chatham Select Board just approved filming of the Netflix series on March 21, pre-production has been underway at the filming location in Eastward Point. There is still more to be done in the next two weeks, but producer John Stark told the board filming is expected to begin April 3 and wrap around the third week of June.

Stark also says that the project's main "base camp" will not be in Chatham, but rather one town over in Harwich at an old car dealership.

The plan is to set up actor trailers, makeup trailers and staff parking in Harwich and shuttle cast and crew to set each day to minimize the film's impact on neighbors.

Other interesting facts shared during the March 21 meeting was that the entire crew working on The Perfect Couple are local to Massachusetts and other local people and businesses will have opportunities to be part of the series as well.
