Moped Driver Loses Leg on Martha’s Vineyard

Over the weekend, a woman lost her lower leg in a moped accident after the motorized bike swiped the side of an oncoming dump truck.

According to Cape Cod Times, two 19 year old girls from New Hampshire were cruising down Barnes Road on the moped when the driver lost control, started wobbling, crossed the yellow line and hit the truck. The moped driver's lower leg was severed, and the passenger suffered serious leg injuries.

The women were taken to Martha's Vineyard Hospital and the driver was flown to Boston.

The driver of the truck said he saw the moped start losing control and slammed on his brakes but was too late to come to a full stop when the collision happened. The police did not cite him and the crash is still under investigation.
